How Not To Work It On The Bank Holiday

GaloshesAs you read this, I may well be squelching my way elegantly through a soggy field.

Yes, it’s the English Bank Holiday weekend, where we dream of balmy evenings and relaxed barbecues, and normally end up with torrential rain, family arguments, and re-runs of Pirates Of The Caribbean.

As I write and schedule this a few days in advance, and as much as I love Johnny Depp, I fear the latter.

Which is a little worrying, as I’m supposed to be going to the village fête. First year in the country and all that, so should show willing.

But I don’t own wellingtons or Barbour jackets or any of that country living uniform. You can take the girl out of the city, but you can’t take the city out of the girl.

A Twitter friend suggested I invest in a pair of Jimmy Choo hunters. I saw a pair for £285 on eBay. As much as I love the brand, if I was spending that kind of money on footwear I’d prefer to see heels.

So, I’ll leave you with my style dilemma. But, if you’re reading from the UK, hope you’re having a good break.

And, if you’re tuning in from elsewhere expecting to see some serious career coaching advice today, this is just a fun way of telling you that I’m having a day off!

Well, thankfully it didn’t rain after all, so my resistance to welly-buying has survived to fight another day!!

Folegandros?! Ah, you make me jealous! I can’t remember the name of the place now, but there’s a fabulous little authentic Greek place in the main town that does some truly wonderful home baked cakes of all sorts. Make sure to have a piece for me!

More seriously and linked to your previous articles, I feel that I really need the break (as well as being excited). Part of the time other than just relaxing, enjoying and recharging will be focussing and figuring out some things as well. I reckon a nice way to start will also be the ideal week exercise so I’m looking forward to all these treats.
A period of inaction often has this rather beneficial effect. All a bit Taoist action/inaction and the magic of this process.
Glad you missed the wellies, your city slicker status would have been diminished :)

P.S. I will be sure to track down the cake and perhaps I will post my findings :) This whole cake analogy could be a nice new viral idea !!!

That sounds wonderful, Tim. Action through inaction is often powerful indeed, so hoping you can have lots of lazy time!

I know some people look fabulous in wellies, but I just can’t bring myself… It’s my constant struggle on the one hand to fit in; on the other to be different. But I’m glad you can’t see it either :)

I’m going to seriously try to remember the name of that place in Folegandros. Assuming the same guy has still got it, you can remind him of the crazy women who used to eat at his place every night for three weeks and who used to do “team building” with the staff in the nightclub after hours!!!

    One word: WedgeWelly.

A little bit of city girl, perfect for the country.

Sophie, I’d never even heard of WedgeWellies. However, a little Google searching to follow up on your comment here has rectified that. I think you’re right – this COULD well be the answer to my style dilemma. Thanks SO much!
