What Keeps You Awake At Night?

The other day I was doing a thorough review of the analytics of my site with Marketing Coach, Jim Connolly.

We discovered an interesting thing.

Lots of people are reading my stuff at 2am.

There could be two reasons for this:

Either you’re so passionate about what you’re doing that you’re burning the candle on social media searches. Or some problem is keeping you awake, enticing you online in search of solutions.

My writing and outlook on life can be very upbeat. Sometimes I struggle to get across that I know what it’s like to see no solution to your problems. But the truth is I’ve been there myself in spades. Which means I’m not just well equipped, but also delighted to support you find your way through whatever challenges you’re currently facing.

You’re unlikely to disclose what’s going on for you on a post comment. But I just want you to know that I love getting emails and calls out of the blue from people who have read the blog and just want to reach out confidentially.

So, if there’s something you’d like help with, email me on christine (at) adifferentkindofwork.com, or pick the phone up to me on +44 (0) 7767 244977.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Christine

Insomnia is no fun. Lying awake re-living the problem in your head at the loneliest time of the day can be soul destroying. The next day you are tired and not in a resourceful state to handle the issue – so it becomes worse.

If you let it – it can become a downward spiral which effects numerous areas both in your business and personal life. Eventually it can impact on your health.

I would encourage any of your readers who feels like that to get in touch with you. Life is a team game and sometimes having a temporary reserve on your side can bring you clarity and the additional resources you need.

Thanks for the fabulous endorsement, Marion.

As you rightly say, lying awake night after night is no fun. I don’t know if something you’re familiar with, but before I started reaching out and solving my own “keep me awake” problems, I used to believe that I should be able to solve my problems and dilemmas myself. After all, I was a pretty smart business person. Why couldn’t I figure it out? I often see this in clients too. They imagine it’s some sign of weakness that they can’t.

As you infer, however, it’s actually a strength to reach out and connect with someone who can help you find the resources in yourself to move forward positively.

      Great to have you here!

    Christine,

I actually can’t keep my eyes open for much of anything after 10 PM so I steer clear of my own computer and call it quits until the next day.

It’s great how you’re reaching out to something you’ve noticed on here and are trying to help.

We need more of that in this world.

    Take care! :)

Thanks, Eric. Good to see you – and to know you call it quits on your computer after 10pm!

I did a lot of thinking about these analytics. You know, there’s a lot of people who’re happy to comment here. But you’d also be amazed at emails I get from folks who never comment because what they want to share is too personal or too raw. I just wanted to write something for others who might think about dropping a line but hold themselves back.

      I appreciate your appreciation :)

As someone who sometimes fights the insomnia battle myself, I totally relate to this post. Not sleeping interferes with functioning well so people would do well to connect with you if the no sleep is frequent.

Hi Julie. You’re echoing a theme here that Marion touched on too – not sleeping does indeed interfere with good functioning. If things are already stressful or challenging, adding lack of sleep to the mix can seriously undermine our positive resources. Reaching out in these situations is positively self-supporting!

    Hey Christine,

It’s only 7 in the morning here but hopefully not showing as 5 in your stats. Sound’s to me like some pretty interesting data. Due to my nature I feel myself getting quite excited about the stats and the interpretation of what might be happening for your blog and the people reading it.
I hope that anyone reading this or any other post feels that they can join in with the community as well as contact you confidentially. At first I found that sharing more personal things felt a bit uncomfortable, but after a while I found the whole process quite liberating and have had some pretty interesting thoughts as a result of the comments/feedback from others.

      Hi Tim

Apparently the stats take account of geographies, so you’re not appearing as a 5am-er!! Knowing you, I can well imagine your interest in understanding the stats!

And thanks for coming on here and saying what you have. You have taken risks on this blog in sharing things about yourself and I’m happy you’ve found the process has been helpful – not just as a result of my comments back, but of feedback from others.

I get all my best ideas and motivation in the even as my body slows down. Sadly I’m usually shattered by then. lol

I have to be honest Christine, and I’m sorry for having to say this, but I don’t read your stuff at 2am. Sorry I thought it was important that you knew ;)

This is a great idea to reach out to people Christine – really nicely put. I need to get more into my analytics, there is a lot we can learn from them.

      Thanks, Jen.

I must say chatting through my analytics with Jim Connolly was a bit of an eye opener. I learned so much about where my traffic was coming from – seriously interesting and indeed informative.

What I’ve also been aware of recently is that people read my site that never leave comments. But after a while of being around send me emails to connect. I love that and wanted folks to know it was more than okay with me!

    Hi Christine :)
I read this a few days ago and, like Tim, did wonder about time difference and all that jazz. I’m glad I decided to wait until now to leave a comment. ;)

It’s a fascinating stat and this post is beautiful. I am known to be awake in the wee small hours but I’m afraid, like Ben, I have to confess that I’m not reading your blog then. I like to use the quiet at this time to get all the techie jobs done that are so much more difficult in a noisy household.

I go through spells of burning the candle at both ends (always up by half 6 with the children) only to then play catch up with some early nights.

And before I get told off, yes, I know it’s not ideal. When my youngest starts school I have plans to work more regular hours but for now, I’m just juggling with what I have (and having a blast!)

Yup, what is it about us crazy bloggers that are so passionate about what we’re doing we’ll regularly burn the midnight oil?

Don’t worry. I’ve now also scratched you off the 2am suspects list ;)

Glad you’re loving what you do, at whatever time you’re able to do it. Wonderful to see you taking off :D
